Over 30 Iranian Firms Partake in

1st Tehran Int’l Watch Festival

The first Tehran International Watch Festival was held from November 26 to 19, 2019, at Iran Mall’s Permanent Center for the International Exhibition and Trade Events with the participation of Iran Watch Dealers Club.

According to Iran Mall Exhibition Center, Parviz Pezeshki, Vice President of the Tehran Watch Manufacturers and Dealers' Union, on the sidelines of this event said that, “The branding of the watch industry is considered as the main purpose of this festival, by means of which customers will have access to the standard merchandise and the standard after-sales service”.

“One of the main problems of the Iranian economy is the supply and sale of low quality products which can be resolved through proper branding in different markets”, he added.

“Another goal of the festival is to provide customers with useful information on the price and quality of genuine products”, Pezeshki went on to say.

"Estimates of the cost of watch production in Iran have brought about this situation," said the Vice President of the Tehran Watch Manufacturers and Dealers' Union about the reasons for production of Iranian watches in other countries, adding that, “With regard to the market demand, non-export of Iranian products and overhead costs of production, the supply of machinery and production of watch are not commercially successful in Iran”.

“An Iranian company, at a recent time, invested significantly in the production of wristwatches in Iran, with an up-to-date design and acceptable quality. But, as these products bore the “Made in Iran” brand, customers were unwilling to purchase this product, and today the company unfortunately does not exist anymore”, he noted.

Pezeshki added that, “As a result of fluctuations and exchange rate hikes, prices of the products have risen sharply and major revenue from watch sellers has been focused on repairing the watch straps and replacing batteries”.

"Currently there are some problems with the import of watches, and the import order registration is done with difficulty in this regard. This difficult and time-consuming process has led the import of watches into smuggling”, the Vice President of the Tehran Watch Manufacturers and Dealers' Union stated at the end of the interview.

At this festival, the products of some 120 international brands were presented by more than 30 Iranian companies in an area of over 4,000 square meters.
