Tehran Attractions

   Tehran is the largest and most populous city and capital of Iran. With a population of around 8 million, Tehran is ranked 24th in the world by the population of its metropolitan area. The land area of the city is around 730 km2. Tehran is a city in the lap of the Alborz mountain range and you will see the glorious mount Damavand wherever you open your eyes throughout the city. It is one of the largest cities in west Asia and the 27th largest city in the world.
Tehran is Iran's political and administrative center. This old city flourished in the Qajar era and it has now lodged a large population from all cities in the country.

    Golestan Palace

Golestan Palace is a collection of prestigious monuments and the oldest palace in Tehran that has been constructed and developed throughout the time. The complex is one of the most leading monuments and palaces of the country in terms of architecture, tourism attraction as well as the artistic and historical edifice that hosts numerous tourists, both national and international, throughout the year.

    Niavaran Palace

Niavaran village has always been the focus of attention due to its pleasant weather and proximity to the Alborz mountain range, thus during the Qajar era, the Qajar kings would pay special attention to it. In 1850, Nasser al-Din Shah, ordered the construction of Sahebqaranieyh mansion.

    National Museum of Iran
André Godard, the French architect, came to Iran to develop a museum and a library; in 1929 he officially began his career. Construction of the National Museum of Iran began in May 11th, 1934. Since the design and the architecture of a museum must be in harmony with its objects and be linked to the history and the art of that land, Godard - inspired by Taq Kasra (the most famous palace of Ctesiphon, the capital city of Sasanid empire which is 35 meters high, 50 meters wide and 5 meters deep) - designed the museum building and two Iranian architects named "Abbas Ali Me’emar" and "Master Morad Ali Tabrizi" implemented it.

   Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran contains the most comprehensive treasures of modern art and owns one of the 5 to 10 major collections of modern arts in the world. The museum covers a wide range of artifacts in the fields of abstract expressionism, pop art, minimalism, conceptualism, and photorealism. In the museum's permanent collection, more than 3000 valuable works from the visual arts elites are protected, of which about 400 are of exceptional value.

    Sa’ad Abad Palace
Sa’ad Abad Historical and Cultural Complex is a collection of mansions and palaces that are located in Darband, the northernmost region in Tehran. It enjoys the most pleasant weather in Tehran and has been constructed in a land area of 110 hectares.
The Sa’ad Abad complex has spent four historical periods: Qajar, Pahlavi I, Pahlavi II and the post Iranian Revolution. Sa’ad Abad was built in the Qajar era and was the summer residence of the kings of this dynasty.

    Carpet Museum of Iran
The Carpet Museum of Iran is one of the museums created to promote the Iranian culture in the framework of Iranian authentic and traditional art. At the Carpet Museum of Iran, numerous artifacts of Iranian carpets and kilims have been put on public display, and those interested can see many of their favorite styles in the design of Iranian carpet and kilim.

   Tehran Grand Bazaar
Tehran Grand Bazaar is an old covered market. This market dates back to the Safavid era. Despite its antiquity, Tehran Grand Bazaar still attracts many people and the existence of modern shopping centers has not diminished its popularity.

   Azadi Tower
Azadi Tower is Tehran’s main symbol. It was constructed years before the Milad Tower and is still widely regarded as the main symbol of the Iranian capital city. This beautiful monument, which is one of the masterpieces of Iranian contemporary architecture, was built in 1970 by Hossein Amanat to commemorate the 2,500-year celebration of the Persian Empire. Azadi Tower architecture is a combination of Achaemenid, Sasanid and Islamic architecture. At the bottom of the tower are the museums, libraries, galleries and theaters.

    Milad Tower
Milad Tower is the most prominent building in Tehran and with a height of 435 meters is ranked the 6th tallest television and telecommunication tower in the world. The tower has a floor area of about 13000 square meters and ranks first among all telecommunication towers in the world in terms of the area of the head structure. This tower, tall and different in appearance, can be seen from almost all parts in Tehran.
In addition to telecommunications and satellite applications, Milad Tower is one of the major tourist attractions in Tehran. It includes a rotating restaurant, an observation deck, an art gallery, a dome, the Iranian hall of fame, the municipality museum of gifts, a food court, an international conference venue with 15 auditoriums, a dolphinarium, a paintball field, a 7D game cinema, 2 movie theatres, a laserium and a traditional restaurant.

    Tehran ski resorts
Tehran is situated in the foothills of Alborz mountain range. This makes the mountainous villages around Tehran an ideal place for hiking, spending leisure time and doing sports such as skiing. Tehran has lodged the most international ski runs in Iran and this has made the city one of the best destinations for skiing and enjoying the winter scenery. The foothills of Alborz mountain range offers excellent conditions for winter sports thus, some of the foreign skiers choose Tehran as their destination in this season.
